    Time
Summary:   This is an article about spinal injuries and how athletes suffer major injuries because they aren’t taught properly how to tackle which causes many serious injuries.
Analysis:  This article is from a big news site. It has an author; it’s from January of two years ago. The purpose of the article is to inform people of what is going on in sports these days, and how injuries are on the rise. I think it is a credible source. They also reference other health sites

1)      ABC
Summary: This article talks about how many injuries happen in different sports each year, and ways to prevent them. In 2007-08 season of high school soccer there was 400 soccer injuries. That’s a rate of 2.35 per 1000 athletes.
Analysis: I think this article is credible. It’s from a big new site and has an author. It has sources from different research places such as different high school athletic trainers, studies from National Federation of High School Associations. It is a little bit older being from 2008.

1)      SB Nation
Summary: This article is about two high school athletes that got paralyzed from hits from behind in hockey, which are illegal. One of the kids Jenna might regain feeling in her legs but the other Jack will never unless he proves the testing wrong, which is unlikely. These hits were within a week of each other.
Analysis:  I think this is a credible source because it is written by a NHL contributor so he is around hockey a lot and it is his job to keep updated about hockey. And also the article was written shortly after the accidents happened. The only problem I see with the article is that no sources were identified.

         CNN
Summary:  This article is about a cheerleader who was dropped and hit her head, fractured her skull, and had a concussion. It lead to a long-lasting anxiety and depression of the parents.  The injuries not only affect the athlete’s life but their families as well. The article also talks about other children’s injuries and how their lives may never be the same.
Analysis: I think this is a credible article. The article is recent and has an author and it is from a big news company. They use sources from the children’s parents, sources for the statistics and a few doctors talk.

            Science Daily
Summary:  This article talks about the most common injuries in the knee. Most of which are ligament tears.  Knee injuries are 45 percent of all sport related injuries to high school kids.  Girls have a longer recovery time than boys with a knee related injury and are more likely to need surgery. Most of the knee injuries happen from illegal activity in the sporting event
Analysis:  I think this author is a little credible but I think there are better articles out there. The author is never stated and the article is fairly old. The purpose of this is to inform people which is needed but the only source they used is from Ohio State University College of Medicine.

Slow Death by Rubber Duck

According to Lisa Bonos a Washington Post reviewer A Slow Death By a Rubber Duck is a hard hitting story is hard to grasp but makes you believe the future will be safer and you can make more informed choices. Also that the government will put some regulations on the chemicals that are around us.The book shows that these every day chemicals lead to many dieseases.

According to the readers at Goodreads.com they all recommend this book. They say it has a lot of helpful information, and very entertaining. It has harsh evidence but the message that is getting across is very strong. The readers said it was a good way to get informed of the chemicals around us. The book was given an overall 3.8 rating.

After starting to read this book it is surprising how many chemicals are in our everyday lives and most of them being hard to avoid. I just started reading the book but the points the author makes are very vaild and the book is interesting. It makes you wonder what is worth putting these chemicals in your body, is having good smelling shampoo and air fresheners  around your house and maybe get some sort of diesease from it or is it worth to have a fresh smelling house by opening the windows and enviornmentally friendly shampoo and having less chance for a diesease. This story has really started to make me wonder.

Slow Death By Rubber Duck #2

I read chapter six and chapter nine. Chapter two talked about children are being exposed to the same chemicals as adults but in different ways. Children always have more contact with the environment and that makes them more exposed to chemicals. Chapter nine Detox talked about how chemical exposures used to be mostly confined to factory workers would worked low levels of industrialization, but now it has grown to everybody is affected by it every day, in almost everything we do.

"45% of all soaps on the market contained some type of antibacterial agent. Triclosan was the most common agent found"
This shocked me because as humans we haven't always been clean. Our ancestors didn't bathe as much as we do now so they weren't exposed to as many chemicals. If we stopped using less chemical-filled products I think we would have longer lives because of what our ancestors died from we have cures for but nobody has any cures for the chemicals. If we could stop using them we would have less health problems and maybe live longer lives. Also if our whole culture was less worried about germs and bathing then it would not be as weird for people to stop showering as much.

My overall reaction of this book was it was boring. But I think it had good information I just was not interested in the topic at all. But it did make me more aware of the chemicals around me and to buy less smelly stuff and more environmentally friendly stuff. .
